i'm still struggling with the ffmpeg build. it complains about libvpx not 
being >= 0.9.1 although 1.3.0 is installed. this is probably related to the 
relatively old Xcode, 4.6.3 is the last one with support for OS X 10.7, and 
MacPorts recommends to use the latest Xcode for builds.

in the mid-term, we should probably spend 20 bucks for an upgrade to 10.8 and 
raise the dependencies by that a bit. we could then upgrade to the last Xcode 
5.x at least.
