You are right!
The right way is to translate from English to any other language and not the reverse. But I urgently needed the package for a course, so I was forced to develop directly in Spanish.
At this moment, I think the best solution, if nobody offers help for the translation, is to do the translation of some basic parts and then translate the rest by pieces, as long as I have time for it.

unfortunately, i don't speak spanish... i had similar issues in another
project, and since then, the baseline is to develop *everything* in english
and translate it to german afterwards, even if german is (at the moment) the
only language targeted. allthough this looks like twice the work, in the long
run it made any kind of translation much easier for us.

this doesn't help at the moment, and without a proper translation method for
plugins it sure looks like a mess now, but perhaps this is something to
consider for the time once the plugin is fully translated for the first time?
