yes, these get purged on reboot.

Thanks for reporting. That crash is already fixed in the development version. 
You may be interested in using our daily builds:
https://launchpad.net/~rkward-devel/+archive/rkward-dailys-cran
Of course, using the daily builds means trading this problem against whichever 
new bugs we have introduced, meanwhile ;-).
