i just came home and remembered my desktop indeed has a fresh gutsy 
installed ;-) so i can add:

> libgfortran.so.2 => /usr/lib/libgfortran.so.2 (0xb7c54000)

similar here with the cran-packages:
libgfortran.so.2 => /usr/lib/libgfortran.so.2 (0xb78ec000)

and that symlink even resides in /usr/lib.
