I really don't care about what solution will be taken as I can not oversee the build consequences at all. So I think the experts should give their opinion about that.

After talking to Christophe, Volker, and Thomas today, we have the following plan:
1) put copies of the 2 blocker classes from kdepim/libkdepim into kdepim/akonadi.
they will be clearly marked as copies that need to die and be reborn in kdepimlibs.
This should allow all of akonadi to build without any other parts of kdepim.
2) create 2 top-level subdirs: runtime and apps (sound familiar?)
Move akonadi, strigi-analyzers (and maybe kresources and plugins)
into the new kdepim/runtime. Move everything else into kdepim/apps
3) kdepim/CMakeLists.txt will basically become a 2-liner:
add_subdirectory(runtime)
add_subdirectory(apps)
