Not scheduled. I think it is not needed, we have a alpha 1 on may 1st and the beta cycle starts 25th June. My idea was to increase release rate nearing release date.
1,5 month between alpha and beta
1 month between beta's
2 weeks between rc's
But if it's better to do a alpha2 that's fine. I could not find the right reasons for it.

O, you are right, we definitely need to talk with the people doing those ports. Does anyone know who to contact, I can send them an email and see what they think.

This is a real problem I think. On several mailinglists I see that people are expecting 4.0.0 to be better than 3.5.6. I'm a bit scared that expectations are too high. Adding an extra 0 might help here?
