The fade animation is pretty quick, it's not a long fade. The "black screen
with cursor still on" is indicates you actually have it working.

(I was thinking about fading the entire duration slowly but that requires some
more effort, that effect wasn't actually meant to be used for this purpose. The
important bit is that it gives you time to react before actually engaging
energy saving from which it might take a considerable amount of time to wake
up)
