The specific case where I could get things to disappear reliably was this:

single page with text input field
FAB shows at the bottom
tap on an input field
virtual keyboard appears, covers the FAB
hit back to get rid of the keyboard
FAB is gone and no begging brought it back

I have NOT tried to reproduce this with the latest plasma upstream - this
was with the code base that you and Sebastian sent me for inclusion in
Subsurface a month ago. So it's possible that this is already fixed.
