Plasma uses regular icons with dark desktop theme

In my point of view it is not an plasma issue it is an monochrome icons and
contrast issue. So for me the solution would be never to move all needed
icons plasma. This would be the same than use app specific icons instead of
standard icons.

e.g. when you start Gwenview and go to presentation mode you have the
contrast issue, when an application want to use an dark color scheme like
digikam and all other apps use the light color scheme, you will always have
the same contrast problem.

In my point of view the application (like digikam, plasma (which is for me
also only an application), Gwenview should say I use here an dark
background (or color scheme) and so I need the breeze-dark icons not breeze
icons. The coolest solution would be that the user can say this I will have
color scheme and select the color of the icons by themself.
