what i fear is that is simply a very complex problem, that every possible
solution has advantages and disadvantages, that will make happy or angry
different set of people, so is possible that any way, it will have a visible
behavior change, so will have a pain period anyways.
the ideal would be then being able to just open new windows when the effect is
on, the two possibilities here are
a) reset the effect
b) leave al lthe rest hidden, but show the newly opened windows
with a) the problem is that is a surprising behavior for many, as br tell.
with b) then is very hard to even understand in what "state" we are anymore,
and what would happen when the effect is disabled?

so do i revert to the old dashboard implementation? (it's a lot of code that
got killed and would need to be reintroduce, urgh :)
