To me is the contrary,.. what is now plasma+kwin gets seenn by people as "the" 
KDE

if becomes just "Plasma", then become "a" desktop by KDE, not "the" KDE 
desktop, would be more a normal citizen,
making room for instance Razor+Lxde to become another desktop by KDE
