This is just my 5 cents. Feel free to completely ignore it.

I think this option should be there, visible to the users and enabled
by default.
The default batt icon should imho just display the batt + percentage
(fine so far) and while hovering you should see  bit more detailed
information like the time remaining for the current percentage.

Further more, i really think it's wrong to close this bug. This is
just one of those cases where it's obvious users want to have it and
some developers in charge of the applet apparently don't want. Putting
in hidden configuration things without a GUI way to set it is imho the
worst thing you can do. It's obvious people want to have it so let
them "tick" it. I would just enable it by default.
