i can imagine any number of things being annoying to someone out there. if
that is the measure for when an option should be included, everything would be
optional and every one of our config dialogs would have dozens of options in
them. this is why i default to "no" on new features that introduce new UI or
new forms of complexity in the code and look for justification of them.

in this case, the question is whether the pop up is the expected reaction to
the active task of plugging in a device. this is not a random action that
happens, this is something the user is physically doing to their computer.

in this case, it is the action of least surprise and not something we get
really complaints about. we can use the space saved in the config dialog and
complexity saved in the code to add things later on that we haven't thought of
yet.

just think if we'd added a ton of features to this widget's dialog before
you'd come along with things like "show all devices". :)

my mind is changeable; it's happened already on this one with the "show only
removable devices" option, in fact.

but this feature has not been shown to meet the design concepts for Plasma
desktop in a way that justifies the costs. other opinions are nice, but what's
required is to demonstrate how the cost/benefit of this feature works out in
favour of benefit.
