wouldn't a simple timeline with markers on it be a lot nicer to use? we could 
even put action buttons on hover right on the markers, such as "Change to this

it could be simpler than that since we don't need to show images, etc. but 
that's the general idea. while it would be a bit more work, it's a much more 
human friendly UI, no?
