yes, those are advantages, however these:

are all just as true of mailing lists.

we have one of these for plasma and it seems to be working wel.

this, however, makes approximately zero sense. we don't work behind closed 
doors and we have no need for another developer communication channel. we have 
the techbase wiki, the mailing list (which is archived) and the irc channel.

i can see an interest at some point perhaps for a web forum for people writing 
plasmoids as that becomes a more mainstream activity, but for our own needs i 
don't think it would add anything except fragment our communication. 

and i think that's true for any kde project.

i really appreciate what you folks are doing with forums.kde.org; it's 
immensely valuable and useful as a service to our various audiences. we'll 
continue to use forums.kde.org for, e.g., the plasma user forum.
