right now, if we get it working on the server side, we don't need to do 
anything for the user side.

if we disable the feature in the branch, then when the server side gets fixed, 
it just "magically" starts working for people.

it also keeps attention on the problem. too often features that get disabled 
just go into bitrot and never make it back out. we've already seen a couple of 
those in plasma already (i removed the code finally for one such feature just 
the other day).
