Hi Dotan,

I noticed a couple of your recent contributions to KDE and, though I occasionally disagree, I have no reason to doubt you intentions. If I sounded like I did, I'm sorry; because this time around I'm not in the position to doubt anyone's intentions.

To read up on the recent turmoil, you could use http://ervin.ipsquad.net/2008/06/25/about-stop-energy/
as a starting point.

My disagreement was solely with the way you presented your dissent. The NSA reference was surely rather ridiculous and when commenting on a feature, especially when you are commenter number 60-something, you should definitely know about that feature, as well as know about the preceding discussion.

So in this case the (stupid) off-hand reaction should have been: Aaron's stubborn, so it's no use I comment here and waste my time (and everbody else's time).

The mature reaction should have been: the lead developer of this project is of a different opinion. He's trustworthy and has a track record of knowing what is good for this project; in code and otherwise. Plasma is a really daring experiment, with new ideas in UI design. Probably I'll write him an email: Hi Aaron, I'm having trouble understanding what this toolbox does, others do as well. Could you please point me to the right information, so I can learn about it and probably even educate others.

This, of course, does not only apply to you. It's the behaviour we all should have shown from the beginning. I brought it up in reply to your comment only because our miscommunication has already done harm to this community and I hoped my remarks could help to prevent further damage.

So, Dotan, your contributions are of course greatly appreciated. We all should just try to communicate in a way that shows our mutual appreciation of each others contributions.

michael
