After upgrading to the xorg RC, the behavior is better. The system is no longer
unresponsive, and if you do xrandr -o left and then do something to cause a
repaint (like Alt-F2), then you get all of the real estate. Unfortunately, the
taskbar is about 1/3 of the way up the screen instead of at the bottom.
