With aMSN, the notifications seems to work, the problem is it's hard notice with the current default theme, as Jonathan states in this post: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=160613#c1.
With the red notification used on the old theme, I never had a problem. Now I have to take a peek at the task bar every few seconds to see if a got a new message, which is really annoying. :S
