I removed my ~/.kde directory, but now I can't log in to KDE 4.1 any more - I get an error message "Could not start kstartupconfig4. Check your installation." The PATH is OK in startkde, so I'll have to investigate further how to log in before I can help you. (Note that I log in to KDE 4.1 with a separate user name.)
