btw, there is already an alternate desktop-plugin located at http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/base/plasma/containments/blankdesktop/ and there is some work done in a gsoc that deals with it. Also it should be pretty easy to e.g. take those blank-desktop, put ~15 lines of code in to xembed e.g. mplayer and have a full video as background :)
At http://doc.trolltech.com/main-snapshot/qx11embedcontainer.html is even the sample code how to embed such a movie, anyone motivated to create such a desktop-plugin? :)
