 Robert Kit:

"imagine you call the manufacturer and request they stop painting this logo on the viewable part of the display, but the manufacturer adamantly refuses to stop this."

it's not there to be a logo, nor is it hardcoded into plasma. it's part of the desktop containment, no more, and that is switchable.

"Between the annoying animated tool"

it isn't animated in 4.1

"that the widgets I close come right back the next time I log on"

also fixed in 4.1

"I'm seriously thinking about ditching KDE 4 altogether in favor of Gnome or one of the lighter window managers. "

if it prevents me from having to answer the same question yet again on this BR or having to deal with people who have unrealistic expectations for plasma in 4.0.x, please do.

Cyrille: "Shouldn't this bug be marked as 'FIXED' ?"

maybe. i dunno; the exact feature asked for, providing a config option in DekstopContainment, is not implemented and won't be. there simply is another way to achieve what they want.

one more reason having an open-to-public-interaction bugs repo is a pita: you end up playing stupid PR games on it rather than actually use it to get work done.
