yeah, like removing the items from the location bar or unmount/eject if they 
are storage devices...

ok, about the whitespace i really didn't see them :)
setsquare maybe only when it's on the panel? for consistence in the desktop i 
would either set it non square or set square the other icons. probably there 
could be problems for the icon sizing mechanism in the icon widget, some 
icons(the ones with a long text that now are more wide than  tall) would get 
a minimum size bigger than others.

that nightmare of mousemoveevent maybe down in the icon widget? (useful also 
in other places like the twitter applet where you can't drag it with the 
mouse over the icon)
