Let see if I get it right: the plasmoid is the collection of files that make 
an applet, the applet is the implementation of the plasmoid, i.e. the applet 
is "what you see'.

I would rule out plasmoid as denomination. Widget or applet naming? Widget is 
making its way into the masses, in fact I saw a "Add your UPS widget" advert 
just a few minutes ago and I looked at it twice, telling myself that it was 
the first time I saw the word "widget" in a non developer context.
I prefer "applet" personally.

Widget, applet, gadget... Why not plasmlet? ;)
