interestingly, each had drawback:

- instant switching made things "jumpy" and even difficult to use (esp the 
Leave entry... mouse over it then try and go to an item... oops! you passed 
over Recently Used ;)

- delayed switching made the content area feel "laggy" because the tab would 
visually switch between states only after a while ....

*but* when i added the fade animation to the tabs the laggy feeling went away, 
at least for me and the mouse over felt better.

i suspected this might be the case when i actually measured the time it took 
me to move-click to a new page versus hover-select a new page. the hover was 
actually *faster* but *felt* slower! the animation removed the preceived 
slowness associated with the lag.

neat. or just another demonstration of how odd our brains are? ;)

hm... i'm ok with moving it to the top, though i think it makes the most 
logical sense where it is (precedence and recency, or first and last, being 
the most important positions and Home and Settings being the two most often 
used of that group?)

time to get some user testing on order ...
