I do agree: on laptop's wide screen, I prefer having a vertical panel on the 
right or left instead of the top/bottom. And I size it to be aligned with 
gkrellm so that I have all needed infos always under my eyes

I was very pleased to the behavior of panels in kde3 (hability to place/size 
them where we want, gather with gkrellm/window makers docks or similar 
things, ...)

It would be very nice to keep those possibilities in the wonderfull world of 
kde4 :)
