hm. there seems to be lots of problems with rotating applets (AA, hover 
appearance, etcx). it's really not a very important feature; i'd like to 
suggest we disable it (by removing the UI for it in the buttons) for 4.0 and 
revisit it in 4.1.

we'll keep all the code to support it in place, we just won't provide a way 
for users to access it right now
