just that this is a development list (the -devel in the title) and while

many of the good ideas you note (e.g. redifining the systray use) have already 
been discussed and even designed (in some cases, e.g. the systray, pending 
implementation of said design), while some of the other thoughts seem a bit 
astray given what code is actually in svn.

i would highly encourage you to check out kdelibs and base from svn (there are 
great howtos on the techbase.kde.org website) if you haven't already and take 
a look at the code, particularly in kdebase/workspace/libs/plasma/. there is 
also api documentation for libplasma up on api.kde.org.
