yes, lubos and i wrote up a detailed spec for how this could work last year. 
but it means redoing how systray works entirely. and we'd still need support 
for legacy icons.

assuming they used it on a non-kde desktop, i can see why they'd want it ;) 
but yes, hopefully on kde they'll opt for the superior (yet to be written ;) 
plasmoid ...
