ok, there are a *lot* of pokes in the dark on this thread. instead of trying 
to describe how things actually are versus most of the ideas proposed here, 
i'll just say this: try implementing your idea(s) and see how well they work.

(a bit hint: krunner is probably the best place for any such automated 
recovery beyond what is already in plasma itself)
