i'd only caution to be careful that the real world overhead of doing this 
doesn't outweight the real world savings =)

i actually wouldn't even both optimizing this until you have some real world 
numbers. this can be optimized quite late in the development process if need 
be, and i'm going to guess that the proxy will take up very little ram and 
cpu and be used fairly rarely anyways.
