I don't know php, so I don't know if looking at the sources will give me traction to write up a draft  protocol spec, but if I think I make any progress, I'll let you know.

I'd really like to commit to using this for my own mobile sharing needs, but feel a little uncomfortable committing too hard with just one server  implementation in a language I'm not skilled in.
