[Owncloud] Are there some explanations on: maintained(4.5) and stable(5.0)?

I was looking for explanation  on branches.
In http://owncloud.org/developer/ I can see maintaned and stable.
What is the lifetime of branches?
What is the lifetime of 5.x and 6.x?
