[Owncloud] external disk storage setup information?

hi all,

newbie here so please be gentle!!

trying to work through owncloud as we are looking for a corporate file 
sharing/access/calendar/contacts solution.. pretty much exactly what 
owncloud does..!

have tried on numerous occasions now to get external disk access to 
work, googledrive is fine and works well, all other options cause the 
owncloud to fail to the level of stopping the system working at all 
unless failed the entry is taken out of mounts.php

would it possible to know if there is some fully detailed documentation 
about this function and how to fault find?

i'm aware of the standard documentation on the site, but i'm looking 
more for someone who has got this working fully and any advice they can 
give..
