thank you for your reply!

The problem is that I can see no other users at all in the dialogue. I am 
sure that my account is in a number of groups with other users, but I see 
none of them.

Do they per chance have to be logged on before they will be selectable?

You can only share files with users who are in the same groups as you 
are. If you are not a member of an ldap group, you won't see any users 
in the share dialogue. If you are a member in one or more groups, you 
will only see the other group members.
