[Owncloud] Intended ownCloud client behavior when sync directory is read-only?

Hi,
I notice that the ownCloud client does not sync if a "Sync directory" is
read-only. I'm wondering if this is by design?
The reason I ask, I'd like to sync a partition which is only sometimes
mounted. It seems that making the mount point read-only accomplishes this
for now, as the sync fails when it finds the RO mount point and succeeds
when it finds the RW mounted partition. I'm wondering if it's safe to rely
upon this behavior in future release, as if the client mistakes an
unmounted partition for an "rm -rf" and removes the directory on the
server, it could be somewhat... challenging.
Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance,
Brian
