Thats an interesting idea. I know that some people don´t like popups so I´m not completely sure if everybody likes this feature. :-)
But definitely something we should discuss.

Interesting idea. So this is for chatting between different users on the same server?

I think this feature would be even more powerful if you can chat with people over the internet. So an jabber or an IRC client for ownCloud would be cool.
