Additional findings after further investigation:
I installed and configured the official Brother MFC-L8390CDW Linux driver
(version 3.5.1-2), using a separate CUPS queue (`Brother-Native`) with an
AppSocket connection (`socket://printer.local:9100`).
Results:
- Direct printing with `lp -o Duplex=DuplexNoTumble` works correctly with the
Brother driver.
- Printing the same PDF from Okular using `Brother-Native`, with long-edge
binding selected, still produces an upside-down back side.
- Other applications, including qpdfview, can print correctly using the
appropriate printer configuration.
We also verified that CUPS correctly receives the requested duplex options.
This provides further evidence that the issue is related to Okular's printing
path, rather than simply incorrect printer settings or a hardware duplex
limitation.
The issue remains reproducible with Okular 26.08.2 and Qt 6.12.0.
