A workaround is to create your own caret shape in Inkscape or another SVG
editor and then select it as the stamp image with the Annotation Options
dialog.  A problem with this workaround, however, is that Okular seems to
impose a minimum image size on stamp images, at least initially.  That is, when
I create a small (say, 12pt) caret in Inkscape and select it as the stamp
annotation image in Okular, then Okular initially makes the stamp several
centimetres wide.  I'm forced to select the stamp and manually drag its size
handles down to a suitable size.
