           Summary: store annotations with documents
           Product: okular
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: SuSE RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: okular-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: leech_joe gmx de

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.94.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

All annotations are stored in the .kde4/share/apps/okular/.../... folder. If the annotations are only used on the local computer this is pretty fine. But if for instance I want to send somebody the document with my annotations (e.g. proofreading) I have to add the xml file separately to the email. The receiver has to store the files at the correct locations because of the absolute path name in the xml file or edit it and correct this. That's not very practicable.

Another aspect is file renaming. I added some annotations to a pdf file and renamed it. After I reopened the file all annotations were gone. As far as I can see the problem is that the xml file is not updated.

The main question is if it is realy sensible to store the data separate from the document. In my opinion it would be much easier for the user to have the documents somehow combined. Here are some suggestions:

* in the same folder + same name as document + different extension (+ compressed ?!)
* in the same file - store directly into the file as done by many annotation tools
* create a new ''file format'' so that the document with all annotations is stored with all annotations in one file (e.g. compressed file similar to odf)

These are only some suggestion. So maybe there is even a better way to deal with this problem.

Best Regards, Joachim
