do you have a better phrase to suggest? if there is such an alternative, we 
can use that. if not, at least "Desktop Search" is something people can (and 
from my testing, do) understand. Nepomuk is not meaningful, in the same way 
that "Plasmoid" isn't.

that said, if you look at the actual strings i changed, many of them refer to 
file indexing. so it isn't simply a matter of "well, this isn't really desktop 
search related".

who do you think the user interface, such as the tooltips and notifications 
that appear on screen, are for? you, the users, ...?

same here; but given a choice between something understandable and mostly-
accurate in a message the user is expected to read and react to and something 
that is completely abstract jargon, we need to pick the former.

if you go through the UI and look at where we use the term "Plasma", it 
becomes apparent that we don't. we don't use the term "Plasmoid" either. we 
use generic terms in the UI that describe as clearly as possible what it is 
doing as best as possible.

"Plasma" is used as a brand for the workspaces and doesn't actually refer 
exclusively to the UI bits in, e.g., plasma-desktop. that branding, which is 
outside of the user-facing UI, is not something enforced by putting it in the 
UI.

because "Desktop" isn't a brandable word and it therefore becomes just "KDE" 
(again) and we're back to square one.

this is unrelated to what gets shown in dialog boxes, tooltips and the like. 
you're asking about branding and marketing issues. this is about making the UI 
understandable and usable by keeping it jargon free.

there evidently remains some confusion and misinformation around this topic, 
but the cure for that is communication. find me online or in-person even at 
BDS (or whever) when you have time and i can do my best to answer your 
questions.
