the best quality should actually be higher than the resolution shown in your screenshot.



The data gets loaded from tiles. The maximum quality provided at level 4 should actually look like this:

and Marble should also render this at the same quality.

Please check in your filesystem at ~/.local/share/marble/maps/earth/behaim1492 whether the directory subdirectories include an entry "4" which contains the tiles with the highest quality. If this is not the case then there is definitely something going wrong.

In general the image tiles can be downloaded from https://maps.kde.org/earth/behaim1492/4/000004/ . Feel free to download them and stitch them together (which can be done using some tools or using a script).

I noticed that you offer a Behaim Globe from 15th century, however the resolution seems to be a little bit low – would you be able to provide a source/ full resolution picture (flat map) of that globe?
