[Marble-devel] Some "high-level" Marble specifications

Hi Evert,

The Marble library comes with a set of different free map themes. This
includes a satellite map theme which only has a resolution of 500m / pixel.

Additionally you can download the MapQuest Open Aerial which features a
much higher resolution (which is best in the US).

In addition to that you can also add your own map data to Marble. See e.g.

https://techbase.kde.org/Marble/OSMSlippyMaps
<https://techbase.kde.org/Marble/OSMSlippyMaps>

for more information on that.

Technically it should be possible to integrate any tiled map data into
Marble by following the approach in the tutorial above.

Best Regards,
Torsten

Hi all Marble Devs,

I am new to Marble and using it in Qt. I have been doing some research into
different GIS interface APIs. A client would then like an abstract API
layer with which to interface with the selected GIS interface API and
display it in a "proof-of-concept" GUI. I hope that I am allowed to post
this kind of question here, and I hope someone will be able to assist.
Otherwise, I will try to do some research on the website, but I am not sure
if I will find everything I need there. So, I would like to know if I can
ask someone to share the following information with me regarding Marble:

--------------------------------------------------------------

World coverage:

Resolution:

Age of mapping data:

Obtaining satellite images:

Availability of Altitude and DEM:

Downloading Satellite images:

Static image API for downloading imagery?

Cost?

Licensing and Copyright conditions?

--------------------------------------------------------------

I will be looking on the website and will Google some more information in
the meantime, but need to understand the specs before I can use Marble to
develop.

Kind regards,
Evert
