Acc. to Google Code-In 2013 task (https://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2013/5828941776420864):

Research done. The whole rendering process takes from ~ 1-3 ms. That's quite small amount of time, but still optimizable. In the patch rendering process is improved by not rendering elements when they are not on the visible part of the sky.
