[Marble-devel] Retirement of gazetteer.openstreetmap.org

Hi Grant,

I just came across this mail [1] announcing the shutdown of
gazetteer.osm.org by tomorrow. This service is used by Marble [2], a
Virtual Globe and World Atlas. Marble is shipped by all major Linux
distributions.

We are using nominatim in our current version which is shipped with KDE
4.5, but nearly no stable Linux distribution is shipping this right now.
This means that most Marble users are still using the older versions
that only use gazetteer, and there is no way we can do anything about it.

Would it be possible to (silently) prolong the existence of the
gazetteer service? Otherwise the majority of Marble users has to live
without a working search, which would be a pity.

Regards,
Dennis
