Looks good. However we are in string freeze. I'd suggest that you ask Burkhard
Lück from the i18n team whether this is considered a bugfix that justifies

Great !! :-))) This is totally awesome :-) ) )
Now the next step would be to make the Measure-Tool a render plugin, so we can
get rid of the old code ... see the Graticule-Plugin to see how lines can get
rendered (or the Test plugin) and the Photo/Wikipedia plugin to see how mouse
input can get handled in a plugin ...
