Any advice or additions would be appreciated. That of course applies to
everyone on this list :-)
Unfortunately we are busy enough with coding already so if you -- or somebody
else on this list -- can dedicate some time on feedback or even improving our
tutorials that would be just awesome and we'll try our best to credit your
help appropriately.
If you think you can add something then maybe the techbase Wiki would be a
good start where you could add your own thoughts:

Unfortunately I don't have much of an advice (but I'm pretty sure that
something like this does exist).
If nobody else here can help you can of course try and ask on #qgis (which is
the IRC channel of the free QGIS tool).
Marble after all is not meant to be a GIS tool but just a convenient and light
virtual globe. Although it would surely be nice if someone took the widget and
would try to create a simple GIS tool based on it (I always dub this separate
project that would yet need to be started "Cartographer") ....
