Kate editor crashes on File Open or File Save

Hi, I have a mini PC that came with Ubuntu. It is currently running Ubuntu 22.04.3. I am not experiencing problems with any other applications (system is a month old). I just downloaded kate 24.11.70  (Ubuntu Software Center told me it would be 2.1GB when installed?) and when I go to open a file or save a new file, the editor crashes.  Is there a way I can run it that would provide more information?
