Hi Philipp!
The directory "$HOME/.local/share/katepart5/syntax/" corresponds to old
versions.

The XML files should be located in:

   - For the classic Kate installation:
   *"$HOME/.local/share/org.kde.syntax-highlighting/syntax/"*.
   - For Kate's Snap package:
   *"$HOME/snap/kate/current/.local/share/org.kde.syntax-highlighting/syntax/"*
   .
   - For Kate's Flatpak package:
   *"$HOME/.var/app/org.kde.kate/data/org.kde.syntax-highlighting/syntax/"*.

Therefore, you must put your XML file in the directory corresponding to the
Snap package.

I tried it and it worked for me.

Regards!
