[Kwintv] Nearly fine, but still some standard problems at startup

Well, that is ot a 2.6 kernel problem.

I recompiled CVS20040127 with 2.4 kernel headers this time,
installed, cleaned up old config files, and tried to start qtvision
under 2.4.24 kernel.
After scanning the french frequency, it :
- first time, found nothing at all ;
- second time, freezed completely.
- third time, found one channel, but after applying all changes,
nothing appeared with /dev/video device. I switched to xv
device, and :
a. it was in PAL norm, even though I scanned in secam ;
b. cleared the channel list (when I changed the device) ;
c. opens the wizard with xv device (and in this case, no scan
can be done). After that, the channel.xml file is the following :

<kwintv version="1" >
 <tvregion>
  <info>
   <name></name>
   <norm></norm>
  </info>
  <channels/>
 </tvregion>
</kwintv>

- fourth time (I want to see what get into the channel file
before auto erasing, to see the norm problem), found nothing,
- fifth time (I scanned frequency range to at least get smthg),
found nothing.

Then I closed kwintv and restarted it. Retreied a scan for
french channels. Kwintv freeze. Killed it, restart. Freeze at startup.
Kill, unload / reload bttv, restart. Freeze.
Note that while scanning, channel audio is found (I can hear them brievly).

Then I tried to scan after booting under 2.6.2 vanilla kernel.
It freezed the whole machine (one more time). Still no
dump, since I'm under X11. The last entries in syslog were :
Feb 5 19:35:34 sirius kernel: bttv0: skipped frame. no signal? high irq
latency
? [main=c25b000,o_vbi=c25b018,o_field=f338000,rc=f33801c]

latency
? [main=c25b000,o_vbi=c25b018,o_field=f338000,rc=f33801c]

after that, I resetted the box.
Second try, (save the mail)... The scan gives no channel.
Round3, with norm set up to "auto", I got some all the channels
but I lost my channel file afterwards. I never managed to get
the channels anymore, scan completed with nothing. I freezed
the whole system twice.

Therefore, I think that when kwintv freeze in 2.4, it freezes the
whole system in 2.6 (this is a 2.6 bug). But it doesn't work
in any case at all in the wizard. I do not undestand why
changing the driver erases the channel file.
My card is a Miro PCTV PCI, bttv loaded as module
since I must pass the tuner option, AMD k7 500Mhz / asus K7M,
slack 9.1.

Appended the last CVS version that DO work BOTH in 2.4 and 2.6
on my machine with bttv in module, if anybody wants to diff
the scan / v4l code. I fixed some build errors at that time
if I remember.

I will further investigate but now I have to look at the source
and try to modify some things (first, fix the norm to secam
by default to see if this is the problem, but now I don't think
so, the scan doesn't work for another reason [racy channel
detection on my old config ?]).

Regards,

CC
